This notice explains what information may be handled when you visit Olkruf or contact us.
Who handles your information
Olkruf Editorial is the privacy contact for this publication. Use fieldnotes@olkruf.com for questions or requests about personal information handled by Olkruf.
Information involved in a site visit
The site does not provide accounts and does not use advertising pixels, analytics, social-media trackers or embedded third-party media. It does not set cookies or write to browser storage. Your browser may keep ordinary cached files to display pages.
The web-hosting provider may process technical connection records needed to deliver and protect the site. Depending on its configuration, these may include an IP address, date and time, requested page, browser details and referring page. The host controls its own logging systems and retention periods; ask the hosting provider for its current practices.
Contact form and email
The contact form prepares an email in your device's email application. It places
the name, email address, subject and message you enter into a
mailto: draft. The website does not submit or store those form
entries. You must choose Send in your email application to deliver the message.
When you send an email, your email provider and the providers used to deliver and receive it process the message under their own terms. They may store it or process it outside Canada. The same applies when you write to Olkruf directly. Do not include passwords, payment details, health information or other sensitive details.
Olkruf uses correspondence to reply, review a correction or research note, and document a published correction when needed. It does not sell contact messages or use them for advertising.
Retention, access and security
Olkruf intends to keep correspondence only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, assess an editorial correction, maintain a necessary publication record, meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute. It should then be securely deleted. Email and hosting providers may keep backup copies under their own retention schedules.
Access to correspondence should be limited to people who need it for these purposes. Olkruf takes reasonable steps to protect information under its control, but email and internet transmission cannot be guaranteed secure. Email accounts should use strong, unique passwords and available multi-factor authentication.
Where applicable, individuals may request access to personal information held by Olkruf and ask that inaccurate information be corrected. Requests are subject to identity checks and any legal exceptions.
External websites and applicable privacy laws
Following a link to another website takes you outside Olkruf. That site's privacy terms apply to information you provide there. Depending on the relevant facts, Canadian privacy obligations may include PIPEDA or substantially similar provincial legislation. This notice does not limit any rights available under applicable law.
For general information, see the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada's PIPEDA principles. If you cannot resolve a privacy concern with Olkruf, you may contact the privacy regulator with jurisdiction over the matter; the federal Office of the Privacy Commissioner explains how to raise a concern.
